AI consulting or automation agency? How they actually differ

AI consulting starts from your business: it looks at how you work, where your time goes, and decides what's worth automating and what isn't. An automation agency starts from the tool: it takes an already-defined process and builds it. One thinks, the other executes.

The confusion comes because many companies sell themselves as both. The useful question isn't what they call themselves, but where they start: do they ask first how you work, or show you first what they can build?

If you already know exactly which process you want to automate and just need someone to build it, an agency works. If you feel you're losing time but couldn't say what to automate first, what you need is the diagnosis — building without that is throwing money away.

Most small businesses are in the second case even when they think they're in the first. That's normal: it's hard to see from the inside where the real time leak is.

That's ideal, as long as the order is right: understand the business first, build second. We work that way — diagnosis before tool — and if in that diagnosis we see it's not worth automating yet, we tell you, even if that means not selling a project.

Be wary of anyone who gives you a price before understanding your business. A serious quote comes after looking at how you work, not before. And be wary of anyone who promises to automate everything: part of the honest work is telling you what NOT to touch.
